WRITING TO EPIC MUSIC

When I first started writing, I needed total and complete silence to write. That meant very few uninterrupted hours, often late at night while everyone slept. But as my writing time increased to include day hours and my household never ceased to be busy, I tried listening to white noise type soundtracks. Rain storms and babbling brooks. It sufficiently drowned out the clutter of household noise and allowed me to concentrate on what I was writing, but to have it loud enough, and after hours of writing, my ears were sometimes buzzing at day’s end.

Enter the epic soundtracks. I didn’t ever think I could write to music, but perhaps the white noise soundtracks eased me into the habit. I choose music with no singing of course, because my word oriented mind is too easily distracted by that. These Epic mixes are just perfect for what I need. Can I say it adds almost a cinematic feel to the experience of writing as those scenes play out in my mind and then down into words?  Now it is a regular practice to write to hours of epic soundtracks while I see what my characters are up to for a given day.

The one I’m sharing here today is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. No doubt I’ll share more in the future.
